Firefox 3 RC 1 now available for download
On Friday 16 May 2008 the first release candidate of the third version of the Firefox browser was released to the developer community for further feedback. This release is primarily focused on testing the core functionality provided by the many new features as well as dramatic improvements to speed, memory usage and performance.
I am especially interested in the last aspects of the releases focus. I am so glad that the developers over at Mozilla are finally admitting, although not is so many words, that there was defintely a problem in this regard with Firefox 2. The last version I took for a spin was the beta 4 release so I am looking forward to see how things have improved and test out the new features that are mention in the release notes.
With Firefox 3 clearly nearing final release, with beta's out from both Microsoft with IE 8 and Opera's 9.5, an exciting time lies ahead for web developers. With browser vendors now actively asking for feedback from developers, I would encourage all web developers to do their bit. Download the beta's, log the bugs you find and provide feedback to the browser vendors. Now more then ever, web developers can have a real impact on the future of the browser.
